ドイツの哲学者オイゲン・ヘリゲルの著書に『弓と禅』という本があります。
この本には、弓の師匠が遠く離れた暗闇の的へ二本の矢を放ち、二本目の矢が一本目の矢を射抜くという、神業のようなエピソードが書かれています。
この葡萄の絵は、ジョージア・オキーフの「Grapes on White Dish Dark Rim」という作品を元に描きました。
1時間ほどで描いたのですが、暗がりで見るとすごくリアルに見えて驚きました。
模写とは言え、病的な過集中と「弓と禅」のような奇跡が少しだけ出会った気がする大切な作品です。
（葡萄をつまみながら描いたのだと間違えて記憶していたほどでした。）
There is a book by the German philosopher Eugen Herrigel titled Zen in the Art of Archery.
In this book, there is a story of a master archer who shoots two arrows at a distant, dark target, and the second arrow pierces the first—a feat that seems almost miraculous.
This painting of grapes was created based on Georgia O’Keeffe’s Grapes on White Dish with Dark Rim.
I painted it in about an hour, but I was surprised to see how incredibly realistic it looked when viewed in dim light.
Even though it is a study of an original, it is a cherished piece for me—one where I feel a morbid hyper-focus and a miracle akin to Zen in the Art of Archery briefly crossed paths.
(I even remembered it so vividly that I thought I had painted it while nibbling on actual grapes. It also deeply resonates with my Theory of Absolute Breath.)
